Under the Helmet with Vincent Wey
Following in your father’s footsteps is nothing new, and certainly the direction Vincent Wey, son of ex Pro Motocross and Supercross athlete, Nick Wey has embarked on. With a long-standing history in the sport beginning in 1997, the Michigan native and Pro racer’s accomplishments span from a 125cc Pro Motocross win to a slew of monumental Supercross podiums. Those are some mighty big shoes to fill for young Vincent, but not a feat that intimidates the athlete, as he has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, moving up in the ranks of amateur moto. With his elbows up and throttle wide-open, the 11-year-old is ready to take on the challenge of following in his father’s two-wheeled legacy.
We caught up with the Wey family as they headed out for another year chasing the U.S. Motocross circuit, including the renowned race at Loretta Lynn’s ranch. Their dedication to Vincent’s track career is resilient, even if other life responsibilities require their unwavering focus. For Nick and his wife Nicole, they’re just along for the ride and simply want to support their children no matter what they do — as long as they’re having fun.
While many may strive for their sons and daughters to follow a long career path in the sport, Nick has made it clear that Vincent’s happiness is what’s most important. As Nick says: “I’m not set on him doing this for work as an adult. Even now, there are so many life lessons that he is learning here like not giving up, seeing how strong he is, persevering through tough times … I think he can gain so much strength as a person just from racing. In general, if he’s having good time we’ll support him. If not, we’ll be doing something else.”
Follow along as you get a peek into what it’s like for the Wey Family to come together to make Vincent, a young Motocross racer’s pro dream a reality.
I get so fired up the night before a race, it’s crazy … It’s hard to sleep, but there are so many things on my mind … like what lines I can take the month before.Vincent Wey
